چکیده

The increasing usage of 3G CDMA systems has led to many developments aimed at improving the system efficiency. The HSDPA feature of the Wideband CDMA improves the system efficiency by sharing the base station resources among several users. It employs a common downlink channel having shorter sub-frames which can be allocated to users dynamically. This report presents a scheduling policy for a single user that changes the rate of transmission based on the SNR feedback received from the user about the channel conditions. A theoretical model for analysing the throughput achievable using the scheduling policy at the base station has been developed. The theoretical bounds of achievable throughput for the single-path and multi-path channels are computed. A comparison of the throughput obtained by employing the adaptive rate scheme and the fixed rate transmission is presented. The simulation results achieved using a RAKE receiver are compared with the theoretical estimates.

Biased Adaptive Modulation/Coding to Provide VoIP QoS over HSDPA

The High-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) of the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) provides a flexible and efficient packet transmission platform, and has been attracting operators to integrate a diverging variety of services. We studied the possibilities of delivering conversational speech traffic in the form of voice over IP (VoIP), over HSDPA. To provide the VoIP QoS typif...

A Novel Performance Model for the HSDPA with Adaptive Resource Allocation

We propose a novel performance model for the HSDPA in presence of circuitswitched dedicated channels. The model consists of two parts: An HSDPA bandwidth model which considers the SIR distribution according to the multi-path model and the number of available channelization codes, and an analytical capacity model which integrates HSDPA and dedicated channels under assumption of adaptive resource...

High Speed Downlink Packet Access: WCDMA Evolution

This article gives an overview of the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) concept; a new feature which is coming to the Release 5 specifications of the 3GPP WCDMA/UTRA-FDD standard. To support an evolution towards more sophisticated network and multimedia services, the main target of HSDPA is to increase user peak data rates, quality of service, and to generally improve spectral efficienc...

Effect of TNL Flow Control Schemes for the HSDPA Network Performance

HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is an extension of the current UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) technology with the objective to increase the data rate and to reduce the latency in the downlink. The main focus of this investigation is to optimise the Iub interface to provide the best end user performance at minimum cost for UMTS HSDPA network. An adaptive credit-based...
